MOMENT

The project MOMENT (Monitoring and Measurement in the Next generation Technologies)  integrates existing measurement and monitoring infrastructures towards a common and open, pan-European platform for IP traffic monitoring.  This STREP project  address measurement and IP traffic monitoring systems interoperability in heterogeneous networks through a unified interface by integrating  major monitoring and measurement data bases provided by previous (FP6) projects like DIMES, ETOMIC, LOBSTER, MOME and other measurement systems like BART or RIPE: Its main objective is to design and implement a mediator to offer a unified interface to all data bases and measurement facilities for IP traffic monitoring and service supervision. Thus its users will be able to submit advanced queries based on semantic access, with possible combinations of different data sources, with privacy protection mechanisms.

  • MOMENT mediator works in the web service scheme through a GUI with users privacy respect by means of anonymization tools.
  • MOMENT offers a semantic interface to access traffic QoS parameters and so particular details of the measurement data provided by the monitoring systems are overridden.
  • MOMENT achieves this with a (standard) IP traffic ontology that also comprises anonymization concepts.
  • MOMENT mediator allows for complex queries (to different measurement data sources) and provides traffic monitoring throughout several domains.
  • MOMENT modular design allows for its flexible exploitation.
  • MOMENT partners have disseminated the project findings through journals, conferences and workshops: 37 contributions in 26 months.
  • MOMENT partners keep continuous cooperation with the USA Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis and the MANA group of FIA.
  • MOMENT partners launched the ISG MOI (Measurement Ontology for IP), of ETSI in 2009 and contributed to ITU-T.
