About Lisbon
(from http://www.visitlisboa.com)
Lisbon is a historic capital, a potpourri of unusual character and charm, where 800 years of cultural influences mingle with modern trends and life styles creating spectacular contrasts.
It lies next to Tagus River, and it is the westernmost city in continental Europe. The city has an estimated population of 600,000 people. However, if one includes the various satellite towns, the population of Greater Lisbon rises to approximately 1.9 million people.
Lisbon offers a wide variety of options to the visitor, including several museums, theatres, beaches, countryside, mountains and areas of historical interest only a few kilometres away from the city centre.
Due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, the city has a pleasant climate throughout the year.

Travel to Lisbon
Arriving by air:
Lisboa International Airport is 7 km from the city centre but as you will probably see as you land, the airport is really in the middle of Lisbon. You will probably fly over the University when you land, as the University is on the other side of the freeway opposed to the Airport.

Transportation to/from the airport:
(unconfirmed information: a taxi ride from the Airport to the University should not cost more than 5€; luggage surcharges may apply. The taxis are equipped with a taximeter and if you find the value to be excessive, ask for the Complaint Book that they are required to carry. The registered complaints are analyzed by a supervision entity, and in ultimate cases, the taxi driver may loose its license).
There is no underground station at the Airport.
